Rich Tomato Sauce
2 x 400g/14oz cans chopped tomatoes 3 cloves garlic, crushed 1 cup red wine or vegetable stock 1 cup water 2 tbsp tomato paste 1 tbsp sugar 1 tsp chopped rosemary leaves 1 tsp chopped thyme leaves salt and ground black pepper, to taste

Combine all ingredients in a large pot and simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes, stirring now and then.
