It has been such a thrill to collaborate with my talented foodie daughter Rose on our new publication A Free Range Life: Together.
Our aim has been to create an exciting new way to approach cooking that is fresh and vital, while being lighter on our waistlines and on the planet.
I love the way Rose and I have ended up in the same place with the way we both now cook, even though we have come from such different directions.
Rose has been a cash-strapped student for the past seven years. Like me, she has a deep love of cooking and, like many of her millennial generation, her approach is vested in the wellbeing of our planet and tempered by a commitment to ethical food production, sustainability and health.
My own cooking has seen a sea change shift over the past year or so, as I have seen first-hand – from Bermuda to Turkey and China to Antarctica – some of the pressures at play in the world. I have come to realise how pivotal it is that we start to make changes to the way we shop and cook, not just for our own health, but for the health of the planet. This, coupled with a desire for food to be the fuel that keeps me strong and healthy, has brought a lighter, fresher focus to the way I cook.
Sustainability is an over-used buzzword these days, but at its heart it’s about creating and defending a path that will enable future generations to enjoy the resources and biodiversity of this amazing planet.
There’s never been a better day than today to start thinking afresh about what you cook and eat, the way you shop and the choices you make in your everyday life. Being more conscious of what we eat and where it comes from is one of the easiest ways to feel empowered in the face of so much change. Please join us on this journey together!
