With the school holidays upon us again we've got an exciting competition to help encourage kids into the kitchen. Cook something with your kids during the holidays, upload a photo and the recipe to my website and you'll be in to win one of two gorgeous Cookie Inventor Kits worth $45, courtesy of the clever Kiwi company Seedling. It's a fun and easy school holiday project that involves two things all kids love – food and computers.
I'm a firm believer that having fun in the kitchen with your kids is a great way to set them up for a good life. They not only learn useful life skills for when they (eventually!) leave home and go flatting, but they absorb useful information about nutrition that will help set them up for a healthy future. And most importantly, you're having fun together and adding to their library of happy childhood memories.
My advice is to start with something simple so they don't have to hang around waiting to enjoy the fruits of their labours. So when Nikita and Tessa came to do some cooking with me we started with a quick and easy Berry Smoothie and then made a miraculously simple One-Ingredient Banana Ice Cream and every kid's favourite, Cutie-Pie Cupcakes – click the video symbol at the top of the recipes to watch us making them, then get going on your own creation.
Here's how to enter the competition:
1. Cook something delicious. It must be an original recipe – not one of mine!
2. Take a photo.
4. Go to the Add a Recipe page, upload your photo and type in your recipe.
5. In the Dish Type field, choose "School Holiday Competition" from the dropdown menu.
6. You're in to win!
Competition closes Sunday 12 May. You can enter as many times as you like – each recipe you share gives you another chance to win!
