Designed and produced by Microplane, experts in fine tools, this is one of my favourite kitchen gadgets. The surgical steel blade is photo-etched with very sharp, fine teeth so it is perfect for creating thin wisps of hard cheese or chocolate. Comfortable and lightweight, it makes grating ginger, garlic or coconut a breeze and it zests lemons in an instant.

Do moths besiege your pantry? Apart from being embarrassing ("doesn't she ever clean out her pantry?") the moths can destroy large amounts of food. These insects somehow manage to lay their eggs in every packet of flour, rice, grain, dried nuts or fruit.
If, like me, you don't like the idea of spraying chemicals into your food cupboards, you'll be pleased to learn about Pro-Pest Pheronet traps. These clever little pheromone traps (pheromones are the sex scents that attract members of each species to each other) are non-toxic and look like little cardboard tents. They are designed to attract the male moths that infest foods. Pop a trap in your pantry and it starts working immediately - after a day or two there may be three or four moths, in a couple of weeks the thing is jam-packed.
Normally, one trap is sufficient for an average-size kitchen and will last about three months. The moths are caught before they mate, so you will find there will be very few, if any, left to breed. Pro-Pest Pheronet moth traps come in packs of two.
